Announcements for Amazing Grace Community Church for the week of August 11, 2013:

Pastor Rohan and his family are away for some well-deserved holiday time. So this coming Sunday, August 11, we will have a guest sharing with us!

Johnny Thiessen, Alberta Regional Director for the C2C Canada Church Planting Network, will be our guest speaker. We look forward to hearing from Johnny!

We’re still adventuring through the Psalms over the summer, too.

Also a reminder: during the summer months we are still in the Westminster Community Hall: 411 – 16th Street North, Lethbridge, AB (just behind the Westminster Elementary Gym where we normally meet).

We hope to see you and your family there!

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Eph. 3:20-21

 

Dear heavenly Father, I take you quite seriously this morning when you tell us in your Word, that your love for us never waxes and wanes; that your mercies are daily and never-ending; and that you are greatly faithful to your children (Lam. 3:22-23) . At times, life would simply be too much to bear is these things were not true.

 

Some stretches of days, weeks, and months have a way of highlighting the brokenness of the world, much more so than the beauty of your kingdom. I’m in one of those seasons, and you are an all-season God. Hallelujah, for your nearness, understanding and promise of sufficient grace.

Reverend Abe Block will be sharing with us this week while Pastor Rohan and his family are away on holiday.

For the summer months we are still in the Westminster Community Hall: 411 – 16th Street North, Lethbridge, AB (just behind the Westminster Elementary Gym where we normally meet).

We hope to see you there!

 

And remember to pray for Pastor Rohan and his family while they are taking some important vacation time. Let’s lift them up and pray that their car has no more issues, too!



How Jesus Traded Places With a Leper

In Mark 1:40-45, Jesus makes a leper clean, and in a way that may surprise you.

 

Here’s a man with leprosy, a skin disease, and the Old Testament says that he has to declare himself “Unclean, unclean!” This leper is in exile. He’s an outcast. No wonder he calls upon Jesus: “You can make me clean.” So Jesus makes him clean.

 

But then something curious happens. Jesus instructs the former leper not to tell anybody about his miraculous healing. Jesus says this sort of thing all throughout the book of Mark. Why? Because Jesus knows that if everyone starts publicizing what he’s doing, the miracles will become a distraction. Worse, they will get the wrong people’s attention at the wrong time. The Jewish leaders will notice him (even more). They will get jealous (even more). Everyone will be confused (even more) about what sort of Messiah Jesus is. And the constellation of all this confusion could lead to Christ’s premature death–before all has been accomplished. That’s why Jesus instructs the leper not to say anything.

Adventures in the Psalms – Summer Series

Adventures in the Psalms - AGCCL

This summer at Amazing Grace Community Church we’ll be exploring the Psalms with a series called “Adventures in the Psalms”.

Where is God in our world of deep emotion, disappointment, and, yes, even pain?

Join us on Sundays from July 21st to August 18th and hear how God gives us hope with “Songs of Praise” known as the Psalms.
